It's the time of year that ants start popping up everywhere. The yard, the kitchen, the bathroom. Everywhere you look it seems to be that ants are making an appearance.

Your first instinct may be to jump for the Home Defense or other store bought pesticides designed for homeowners. While products like these can be great at stopping ants that are just getting started sometimes expert help is needed too. For example Odorous House ants can have colonies as large as 30,000 ants and multiple queens. Spraying the wrong product on a colony that size can cause more harm than good. We recently went to a home in Spokane, Washington where the homeowners had been trying to "DIY" and after many weeks of spraying a product that they thought was helping we discovered that the ant colony had split and now they had multiple ants colonies through out the house. Because they took so long to call a professional it meant that it would lake us extra days or possibly weeks to fully eradicate all of the ants.

As a side note, even if a pest control pro tells you they can get rid of odorous house ants in one try. These ants need extra attention and 85% of the time we need follow up visits to have a successful treatment. And any good pest pro will do followup to verify the ants are eradicated.
